The Strand - Tauranga Waterfront
Our stunning waterfront plays a vital role in our city centre, connecting us to our heritage, creating a beautiful spot for a lunch break or a stroll in the fresh air. It also provides a beautiful backdrop to our city and reminds us every day as the sun rises up why we choose this place to call home. What’s more even our most famous dog, Hairy Maclary, calls it home!
The bronze sculptures of Hairy and his eight furry friends were created by Brigitte Wuest. You'll find Scarface Claw, Slinky Malinki, Hercules Morse, Muffin McLay, Bottomley Potts, Schnitzel von Krumm, Bitzer Maloney and Zachary Quack, and a relaxing seating area set under the magnolia trees where you can enjoy watching people of all ages enjoy interacting with the characters from Dame Lynley Dodd's much loved children's book.
These larger-than-life bronze statues have brought the characters from Hairy Maclary to life, and created a lasting legacy for generations to enjoy. The sculptures are a fantastic addition to the family activities on Tauranga’s waterfront.
